Motorists will see cost of petrol and diesel soar this Easter after hike in oil prices

Motorists face paying through the nose for petrol and diesel this Easter getaway as pump prices soar.

Average prices are at the pumps stand at a five-year high for Easter according to the AA, with petrol at 125.41p a litre and diesel at 131.97p a litre.

Motorists could end up paying more to get around this Easter

But motorway petrol cost as much as 145.9p a litre yesterday, more than 20p a litre or £10 a tank more expensive than the UK average.

Prices have shot up in just a month on the rising cost of crude oil.

Oil company sites have rushed to pass on wholesale cost increases while price-conscious supermarkets in many towns stand out as the go-to places for cheaper fuel.

This has opened up a huge 6.4p-a-litre gap on average between the two retailer types.

“A $10 jump in the price of oil since February and sudden drawdown of petrol stocks in the US, leading to a surge in the commodity price, has sent the Easter cost of petrol at UK pumps to its highest since 2014,” says AA fuel price spokesman Luke Bosdet.

“This has been a shock to UK drivers which has almost wiped out the benefit of fuel efficiency savings from summer versus winter motoring,” he said.

Bosdet believes motorway prices are “out of control” and a distressed purchase.

He added: “Easter is going to be particularly expensive for many travellers forced on to the road by railway closures or Saturday’s football matches, which see Southampton fans going to Newcastle, Tottenham fans to Manchester, Watford to Huddersfield and Brighton to Wolverhampton.”

However, the AA says there are hidden ‘cases’ of considerably cheaper fuel on or just off the highway.

Three favourites for holidaymakers heading to the West Country on the M5 – 127.9p, Wales on the M4 – 127.9p, and the Lake District on the M6, third of a mile from junction 44 – 119.7p.

All the celebrity beauty inspiration you need for the festive season

From Diwali pujas and card parties to wedding festivities, this time of the year usually means packed calendars, delicious indulgences, and days filled with loved ones and bonhomie. The slightly less enjoyable part of these few months? Figuring out what exactly to do your hair and make-up for the many soirées lined up.

If you’re in need of some beauty inspiration, you only have to look to Bollywood’s leading ladies. Sonam Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez nail traditional low buns heaped with strings of fragrant mogra, perfect for a formal event like the pheras or Laxmi Puja. Athiya Shetty, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Esha Gupta keep it fresh with light make-up, a pop of colour and blow-drys; a great look for family brunches and mehendis. If traditional is not the way you want to go, Deepika Padukone’s oxblood lip, Neha Dhupia’s faux bob, or Karisma Kapoor’s twisted ponytails will be completely in place at a card party or a friend’s cocktail.

How to Keep Your Skin From Freaking Out This Summer

Summertime is a beautiful time of year, but it isn’t always gentle on your skin. Increased exposure to UV rays, hot winds and moisture-depleting air-conditioning make the perfect recipe for dull, dehydrated, sensitive and thickened skin. Thankfully, you don’t need to overhaul your skin care routine to defend your skin this summer. All you need are these five easy tweaks to make your skin glow from within—even if it’s 100 degrees outside.

12 Tips for Maintaining Your Summer Glow Year-Round | Everyday Health

1. Cleanse Your Skin…Again

For clear skin, the rule of thumb is to cleanse twice at night—first to remove makeup, sunscreen and dirt; and second to address the skin and the pores. Using a cleansing milk or oil is ideal because it will bind to excess oils and makeup when applied on dry skin, which you then emulsify with water and rinse away. Foaming cleansers can disrupt your protective acid mantle, stripping the skin of vital moisture that may already be depleted by sun exposure. I recommend Dr. Hauschka Soothing Cleansing Milk, which utilizes plant oils, loess clay and an extract of fermented grain for a cool, gentle and highly effective cleanse.

2. Exfoliate…But Don’t Scrub

During summer, excessive sweating and increased oil production—coupled with layers of sunscreen and multiple makeup touch-ups—can lead to congested pores and random breakouts. Exfoliating is key, but be cautious of scrubs, which can be harsh and abrasive on the skin, and enzymes, which can irritate and dehydrate sensitive or sun-affected skin.

3. Don’t Go 100% Oil-Free

The skin has a different set of needs during summer, and choosing the right moisturizer will play a big role in the texture and comfort of your skin throughout the day. Choosing a lighter moisturizer for the summer months makes sense, but don’t go completely oil-free. Your skin can sense the level of oil on the surface of the skin. If depleted, it can kick your sebaceous glands into overdrive, leading to excess shine or congestion. Choose a moisturizer with gentle plant oils that will help to keep your natural oil production in check.

4. Ease Up on Makeup

A full face of makeup is not always ideal for a day at the beach, camping or even running errands in the heat. That’s why Translucent Bronzing Tint is my hero product for summer. This light, mineral-based liquid bronzer can be added into any moisturizer, sunscreen or body lotion to smooth imperfections and add a kiss of color. Mineral pigments add color and glow, and the green base of chlorophyllin copper complex will help deflect and minimize redness. If you’re a victim of too much sun, this can also diminish the appearance of “lobster” face!

5. Include EFA, H2O and Antioxidants in Your Diet

As they say: You are what you eat. Your skin is a reflection of your internal state, and you will notice a difference in the texture of your skin when you stay hydrated and regularly tuck into juicy summer fruits, leafy greens and foods rich in essential fatty acids (EFA). As an Aussie, I am advising you to quite literally throw a shrimp—or a fish—on the barbie. A diet and skin care regimen both rich in antioxidants and healthy fats will result in a radiant glow and clarity to the skin, and you’ll be setting yourself up for long-term skin health and a youthful appearance by neutralizing damaging free radicals.

The health and beauty benefits of mineral-rich ocean water have been touted for centuries, but sometimes you can have too much of a good thing! If your skin is starting to feel a little dry, lather on a hydrating body lotion that is low in oils so it won’t trap in heat.Beauty

8 skincare tips for autumn

Keep your skin supple, youthful and comfortable this autumn with our beauty advice…

We all love a crisp, autumn walk through the crunchy leaves or by the coast to boost circulation and give your body a good all-over workout. But cold, windy weather isn’t so great for your skin. Here are Top Santé’s top beauty tips for how to look after your skin during autumn and winter.

How to protect your skin when the weather gets cold

1. Plump up your face with hyaluronic acid

Originally used as a lip filler ingredient, hyaluronic acid is now in almost all top anti-ageing skincare formulas. Whether used as a single ingredient serum or as part of a rich moisturiser, HA can be used any time of day to hydrate and re-plump your complexion. We love Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Serum (£24.99, indeedlabs.com), which contains the purest form of hyaluronic acid – completely free from animal-derived raw materials – and red marine algae to boost blood stimulation. For a day cream we recommend Elemis Hydra Balance Day Cream (£40 elemis.com), which contains Hyaluronic Acid to lock in essential moisture, and Meadowsweet extract to regulate oil production.

2. Use high-UVA sun protection – even in autumn!

The nights may be drawing in and temperatures dropping but the sun’s rays can still affect your skin. Although UVB is too weak at this time of year, so it’s unlikely you’ll burn, UVA is still present, even on cloudy days, and is the ray most associated with deeper ageing. Cover up with a SPF30 moisturiser to protect your face when out on blustery walks. Try Jurlique Sun Specialist SPF40 High Protection Cream (£27, jurlique.co.uk) which gives a high protection against UVA and UVB rays, plus provides skin with a boost of antioxidants and emollients to keep it hydrated.

3. Hydrate with weekly sheet masks

Originating from Korea, sheet masks are now hugely popular in the UK as they’re easy to use. Look for a hydrating and plumping ones containing collagen and HA. We love the Collagen Gold Under Eye Mask (£10, stripwaxbar.com) for noticeably plumped up skin.

4. Use a facial spritz to beat tightness

They may seem more suited for summer, but a spritz of hydrating facial spray can help relieve any tightness caused by the cold. Go for one without any alcohol, which can further dry skin. Try the all-natural Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist (£24.14, herbivorebotanicals.com) which is created with pure plant actives — no fillers. It’s base of coconut water is infused with hibiscus flower petals and rose to tone, hydrate, and soften all skin types.

5. Reduce fine lines with rosehip oil

Rosehip oil is naturally rich in essential fatty acids that re-hydrate dry skin and help to improve the appearance of wrinkles. Used daily, it can completely change the look and feel of your skin, rejuvenating and kick-starting those skin cells. RosehipPLUS Australian Certified Organic Rosehip Oil (£15, treatyourskin.com) is made using a technique that doesn’t involve heat, solvents or chemicals to maintain maximum levels of nutrients.

6. Reveal smoother skin with gentle exfoliation

You may be sweating less but your skin still gets a build up of dead skin cells and sebum over winter, so weekly exfoliation can keep your face smooth. If you’ve got delicate skin, and especially during the drier, colder months, opt for a creamy exfoliator that contains gentle fruit acids (AHAs) rather than large grainy particles, which can tear sensitive skin. Or, go for a very fine powder-to-lather formula, such as Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant (£48, dermalogica.co.uk) which is gentle enough to be used each day

7. Turn down the heating to protect your skin

Being indoors in a centrally heated home or office is very drying for your skin. Instead of whacking up the heating, take advantage of all the cosy cardies, jumpers and slippers to stay warm. When you really do need some heat, consider using a humidifier to keep some moisture in the air, or place little dishes of water by your radiators – the heat will cause the water to evaporate to keep the air more humid.

8. Have a monthly anti-ageing facial

It’s not only great for your skin, but a facial is also the perfect chance to relax and be pampered. There are plenty of hydrating options or you could go for one that involves non-invasive laser light to rejuvenate your complexion. Ellipse (ellipseuk.com) has a new Light Facial device that’s used during some of their treatments to help diminish fine lines, wrinkles and promote a radiant complexion. The light facial treatment can be booked at The Skin Laundry in London (skinlaundry.com) First treatment is free, subsequent treatments, £60. Neck and decolletage, £20 extra.
